Screw you, I drive what I want and I like what I drive. Sure I happen to do the things im “supposed to do” with it...but even if I didn’t maybe I just like it and you can zip it or get a corn in the eye.

You’re not using your 4 door SUV to its potential, you should get a 2 door SUV plus an extra car instead. :P

Oh man... don’t get me started on JKs... they’re glorified minivans IMO. At least that is how they are used. Even the lifted ones with light bars, they’re rarely dirty. The only Jeeps I see with mud on them regularly are 20 years old.

I wanted to reply to the 2-door SUV thing with DeMuro’s article titled “Every 2-Door SUV Has Failed” or something... but I happen to think his (Doug’s) premise was rather thin. Calling the Wrangler a failure, for example, is a stretch. Yes, he mentions them, and points out that Wranglers are nearly all 4-doors these days, but that’s an evolution, not a failure. Still. The point of his article was that 2-door SUVs are not on the upswing, and lots of 2-door variants of otherwise popular models have not lasted long in the US market.
It turns out people like to be able to get in and out of the back seat! Who knew?

You can’t judge a Jeep by the dirt on it. It’s easier to judge it by the profile of its tires. Many JK owners religiously wash them after they are used. Hell, one of heads of the Jeep group I’m part of has hers detailed if she had a weekend of heavy wheeling. There is a guy in the group with a detailing business where he specializes in Deep cleaning Jeeps.

I hated that take, it was so stupid it kept me from sleeping at night.
I’m not a fan of SUVs but lets get something clear, the “If you don’t use it to it’s full potential then get _____ instead” argument ends in
PUBLIC TRANSPORT,
because no one uses a car to it’s full potential.
Is it unreasonable to daily an F-450 duallie in a very congested city with small roads?: yes, but in the end if you live in a very congested city with small roads you should be using the metro anyway if you care about
reasonability.
I think that Jalpnik writter can go live in South East Asia and daily a 50cc motorbike if he cares so much about what is reasonable.

NO!! YOU SHOULD DRIVE A PRIUS OR YOU’RE A BAD PERSON.
On a more serious note though, while people should be free to drive what they want within reason, if I hear someone complaining to me that they’re broke and I see them driving a an expensive to own vehicle (whether it’s a big assed truck or a BMW) that I know they don’t truly need, I’m gonna tell them to either ditch it for something in line with their actual needs, or stop bitching about being broke.

You can’t judge a Jeep by the dirt on it. It’s easier to judge it by the profile of its tires.

I’m getting sick of the just buy a car for your commuting crap. My commute is 4-miles. Even taken to the extreme of my $140 RallyMetro, buying it, maintaining it, registering it, and insuring it would cost more than I’d save in gas over daily driving my truck.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 17:24 |
|
My commute is 15 one way and even for me the numbers don’t work out. I mean yes I could make it work but the payback is years and I would be driving something other than what I would want in the mean time
![]() 04/16/2018 at 17:38 |

My Jeep is 21 years old... I can’t stand having mud left on it. Mud ruins seals, grinds into the glass when I roll the windows down, and holds moisture in causing rust. I try to avoid mud, but when I do get into it I have fun but I immediately afterwards set about washing it thoroughly. People who leave mud caked on their Jeeps A. don’t actually care about their Jeeps or B. haven’t owned them long enough to see the damage mud can do.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 17:39 |
|
I only agree with that argument when someone gets a high potential car because of its potential and then never uses it.
“I bought a jeep to go off road!” >never goes off road
![]() 04/16/2018 at 17:41 |
|
I autocross my car and I’m taking it to a track day. I also have drag raced and done a burnout or two. I think I’m using it to its full potential

B. haven’t owned them long enough to see the damage mud can do.

I do have a daily, but that’s so I can take road trips and reliably get to work when my old shit won’t start (or doesn’t like the hwy that much)
My daily driver hatchback also spends far more time off road than most trucks/suv/Subarus.

I don’t really care what you are talking about because Nacho Libre is a contender for the best film of all time. Along with Galaxy Quest , Coneheads and Moonstruck , in spite of the presence of Nicholas Cage, who is one of the worst movie actors of all time, while Cher is one of the hottest movie actors of all time.
And what is MRW?

![]() 04/16/2018 at 19:28 |

Before I park my ATVs or dirtbikes, I’ll wash them. Depending on how dirty they got and how lazy I am determines the extent of the cleaning, but it’s always at least a quick spray with the hose. I can assure you my ATVs are/were not glorified minivans, mud and dirt will ruin stuff if it’s left where it’s not supposed to be.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 19:31 |

You don’t care about 2-door SUV’s because you can still get them (or at least got them longer than us)
![]() 04/16/2018 at 19:31 |

Interesting. I don’t really look at the movie for laughs so much as for quotes; think: “...diarrhea since Easters...” And, “The Lord’s cheeps...” Jack Black is an National Treasure. Nicholas Cage, not so much.

As best I remember we could get the following two door SUVs in the last five years:
Jeep Wrangler
LR Defender
RR Evoque (if you can even call it an SUV)
G wagon convertible
...
I think that’s it, we didn’t get the murano cross cab, however, a long time ago we did get a Mexico-only RamCharger which was really cool, you can ask MKBruin all about it!

Yep. That’s what it all boils down to. Drive what you want! I actually would like to get a smaller cheap DD, something with a stick shift that’s easier to park. Maybe I will someday, but it will be because I want to. I darn sure won’t save a nickel on that deal!
![]() 04/16/2018 at 23:21 |

Yeah but you don’t do that every time you get in your car so you should just have a motorized pogo stick instead.
![]() 04/16/2018 at 23:29 |

Unless you cross the Rubicon trail for your daily commute to your mailbox and back, you’re just pretending. You only need to transport by a skateboard while holding a kite and dragging a radio flyer wagon /hot take
In seriousness, I’m with you. What happened to “drive free or die”?
![]() 04/16/2018 at 23:30 |

bad takes are big sellers, so to speak. “Drive free or die” has been replaced with “Drive free? Nah, monetize!”

The 2-door Tahoe too, they dropped the 2-door for this gen in the US. I assumed there’d be more, maybe an Explorer too, since Dodge and Chevy had versions.
